og:image

The Open Graph tag that sets the preview image for your link — the picture in the Slack, iMessage or X card.

og:image points to the image platforms show in a link preview. It is the single most visible part of an unfurl, and the one most often broken — because it is set to a relative path, an image that is too small, or one that is injected client-side where crawlers never see it.

Getting it right

  • Use an absolute URL, not a relative path.
  • Size it 1200×630 for a large summary card.
  • Render the tag server-side so crawlers can read it.
